On Sunday, August 2, Door Community Auditorium (DCA) will present a concert by acclaimed alt-country songwriter Justin Townes Earle. The A.V. Club calls Earle “a deft storyteller…alarmingly resonant and refreshing.”
Like Steve Earle (his father) and Townes van Zandt (his namesake), Justin Townes Earle has an uncanny knack for bracingly honest songcraft. His songs draw on a deep well of experience: after four full-length, critically-acclaimed albums, near-constant touring, multiple stints in rehab, newfound sobriety, and amicable and not-so-amicable break-ups with record labels, the 32-year-old Earle has quite the story to tell.
Earle tells that story with sly intelligence and raw honesty, pairing the well-worn wisdom of Americana music with gritty reflections on modern life. According to the Chicago Tribune, “Justin Townes Earle is a real talent who can turn messy history into heart-shredding art.”
Most recently, Earle released two companion albums: Single Mothers (which came out in September of 2014) and Absent Fathers (which came out in January of 2015). Hailed as work that is “showing the world that alt-country can be pretty dope” (Noisey/Vice), the two albums have had great radio success, peaking at #2 on the Americana radio charts.
Consequence of Sound raves that Justin Townes Earle’s most recent writing is some of his best yet, “densely packed with resonant, lovely, and perceptive Americana.”
Justin Townes Earle’s performance is made possible by major sponsors Tapuat Kombucha and Wisconsin Public Radio, as well as supporting sponsors Blacksmith Inn on the Shore, The Cookery Restaurant and Wine Bar, Maxwelton Braes, and Peninsula Filmworks.
Justin Townes Earle will perform at DCA at 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 2. Tickets for the concert range from $22 to $46. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made through the DCA box office, located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek.
