On Friday, July 31, four-time Grammy winner and country/Americana icon Lyle Lovett will take the stage to a capacity crowd at Door Community Auditorium, accompanied by his legendary Large Band.
Lyle Lovett has created his own style of American music in a career that spans 14 albums and more than four million records sold. Since his self-titled debut in 1986, the Texas-based Lovett has defied convention by fusing elements of blues, country, folk, gospel and jazz with a gift for storytelling, as evidenced by such hits as If I Had a Boat, She’s No Lady, and My Baby Don’t Tolerate.
At DCA, Lovett will perform with his renowned Large Band, featuring over a dozen brass players, string players and vocalists. Together, Lovett and his band hoot, rock, and rollick.
According to the New York Times, “Lyle Lovett can make any song sound like a small tragedy. His pained, honeyed voice, with its bluesy turns and its countryish ache, fills every line with sincerity; his unhurried, deadpan delivery gives every line the air of an intimate confession.”
Lovett has appeared in 13 feature films, and on stage and television. Among his many accolades (in addition the four Grammy Awards), Lovett was given the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award, and was recently named the Texas State Musician.
Garden & Gun recently called Lovett “one of America’s most beloved singer/songwriters,” and he was featured in the coveted “What I’ve Learned” column in the February 2012 issue of Esquire.
Lyle Lovett’s performance is made possible by major sponsors Bill and Poo Calkins, Lori and David Nicholas and Main Street Market, as well as supporting sponsors The Cordon Family Foundation, On Deck Clothing Company and Tapuat Kombucha.
Lyle Lovett will perform at DCA at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 31. Tickets for the concert are completely sold out. The DCA box office is located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek and is open Monday-Friday, 12-5 p.m. Tickets for all other DCA shows can be purchased in person, on the phone at (920) 868-2728, or online at www.dcauditorium.org.
