Movies at the Door: Mamma Mia Singalong
On Friday, January 23, at 7 p.m., DCA will present a free sing-along screening of the film Mamma Mia!. Using the unforgettable music of ’70s pop stars ABBA as its soundtrack, Mamma Mia! tells the lighthearted story of one bride-to-be’s attempt to identify her father on a Greek island called Kalokairi. The film features Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, and Pierce Brosnan, as well as 17 of ABBA’s most enduring and endearing songs, including “The Winner Takes it All” and “Dancing Queen.” Audience members are encouraged to dress in costume if they so desire and to come ready to sing along.
The screening of Mamma Mia! is free to the public and freewill donations are encouraged. The Movies at the Door series is sponsored by Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant & Butik.
Distinguished Lecture Series: The 2014 Election Between Burke and Walker
On Saturday, January 24, at 9 a.m., the DCA’s Distinguished Lecture Series will offer a lecture entitled “Competing for the Governor’s Mansion: The 2014 Election Between Burke and Walker,” presented by St. Norbert College assistant professor of political science Dr. Ivy Cargile. Cargile’s lecture will examine the nationally publicized gubernatorial race between Republican incumbent Scott Walker and Democrat Mary Burke. Cargile will explore the question of why voters re-elected Walker, which issues came into play most prominently during the election, and the long-term implications of the election for Wisconsin politics.
Cargile’s lecture is free to the public (freewill donations accepted) and is sponsored by Dahl Law Firm and Ross Estate Planning; lodging is provided by Homestead Suites.
Coffeehouse Concert: Katie Dahl Kickstarter Kickoff
On Saturday, January 24 at 7 p.m., Katie Dahl will present a concert in the DCA Fireside Lobby. Based in Baileys Harbor, Katie Dahl is a nationally touring singer-songwriter with numerous songwriting awards to her name. Her rich alto voice, incisive songwriting, and quick sense of humor have made her a crowd favorite in Door County and beyond. At the DCA coffeehouse concert, Dahl will launch the Kickstarter campaign for her new album, which will be recorded in February. Audience members who attend the concert will get the first listen to several brand new songs by Dahl, and they will also have the option of pledging to the Kickstarter campaign for special prizes available only at the DCA show. (No Kickstarter contribution is required to attend the performance.) Dahl will be joined by bass player/percussionist Rich Higdon.
DCA’s Coffeehouse Concert Series is sponsored by The Cordon Family Foundation.
