On Sunday, July 19, legendary country-rock musician Charlie Daniels and his band will take the stage at Door Community Auditorium.
Playing music that ranges from earnest gospel tunes to rowdy Southern rock to classic country anthems, Charlie Daniels has left an indelible mark on America’s musical landscape. With hits like The Devil Went Down to Georgia and The South’s Gonna Do It, as well as memorable appearances on the Urban Cowboy movie soundtrack, Charlie Daniels has topped country and pop charts, won a Grammy Award, earned three CMA trophies, and been inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.
The Chicago Tribune writes, “You can’t help but be affected by [Charlie Daniels’] fiery instrumentalism and picture-painting lyrics. Daniels and his colleagues are master writers of the kind of western-novel-style poetry that makes men and women larger than life.”
Daniels began his career in the late 1950s as a songwriter and session guitarist for acts like Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Al Kooper, and Marty Robbins. In the early ’70s, his trademark anthems like The South’s Gonna Do It took audiences by storm, and Daniels began to make his own mark on the music world. Forty years later, at age 78, Charlie Daniels is still an outspoken patriot and road warrior. Charlie Daniels and his band imbue their live performances with fierce musical passion and easy Southern charm.
Country Weekly says Daniels is “blazing”; Sing Out calls Daniels’ music “rich, hooting fun.”
