DCA offers a cure for those early winter blues: the first-ever DCA Winter Blues Fest. To kick off the festival, DCA presents a screening of Take Me to the River, a documentary celebrating the inter-generational, inter-racial, inter-gender musical influence of Memphis in the face of pervasive discrimination and segregation. Hip-hop artists such as Snoop Dogg and PNut are paired with legends including Mavis Staples, Booker T. Jones, and Charlie Musselwhite to tell the story of the struggles, joys, and inspirations of some of America’s most talented master musicians. Eric Thorngren, Supervising Sound Editor for Take Me to the River will be joining Director, Jerry Harrison of The Talking Heads for the post-screening Q&A and to reflect on this film’s remarkable story.
