With a B.A. from the University of North Dakota, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina, Dr. Villarroel’s main research interests include the impact of global institutions on the development of democratic structures in developing nations.  She has presented at the Joint Conference on International Law and International Studies Association in The Hague, the Academic Council on the United Nations and was a Santo Domingo Visiting Scholar at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS) at Harvard University.
