Door Community Auditorium (DCA) kicks off its popular winter event series Friday and Saturday, January 16 and 17 with a showing of the Packer fan film Extreme, Loyal, Victorious; a lecture about the threat of ISIS, and an intimate coffeehouse concert by Sturgeon Bay cellist Hans Christian.
Movies at the Door: Extreme, Loyal, Victorious
On Friday, January 16 at 7 p.m., DCA will present a free screening of Extreme, Loyal, Victorious. This 2011 film takes an in-depth look at the fiery enthusiasm of the Green Bay Packers fan base through the stories of some of Green Bay’s most passionate and loyal supporters. Documentary filmmaker Meghan Parkansky began filming Extreme, Loyal, Victorious at the beginning of the Packers’ 2010 season—the season that would eventually lead the team to victory in Super Bowl XLV.
The screening of Extreme, Loyal, Victorious is free to the public and is sponsored by Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant and Butik. Freewill donations (extreme enthusiasm and the wearing of Packers garb) are encouraged.
Distinguished Lecture Series: The ISIS Threat in Iraq and Syria
On Saturday, January 17 at 9 a.m., DCA’s Distinguished Lecture Series will offer its first lecture of the season, entitled “The ISIS Threat: The Complex War Raging in Iraq and Syria.” In the lecture, Dr. Ozum Yesiltas, visiting assistant professor of political science at St. Norbert College, will discuss the current political and humanitarian crisis in Iraq and Syria. Yesiltas will also explore questions about increased autonomy in Kurdistan, the porous borders of the Middle East, and deepening ethnic and sectarian divides in the region.
Yesiltas’ lecture is free to the public and is sponsored by Dahl Law Firm and Ross Estate Planning; lodging is provided by Homestead Suites.
Coffeehouse Concert: Hans Christian
On Saturday, January 17 at 7 p.m., DCA kicks off its 2015 Coffeehouse Concert series with a concert by nationally touring cellist and multi-instrumentalist Hans Christian. A German-born musician currently based in Sturgeon Bay, Christian plays a multitude of instruments, including cello, bass, nyckelharpa, and sarangi. Christian’s haunting performances utilize live looping and a wide variety of ethnic string instruments to create a transcendent fusion of Indian, New Age, jazz, and classical music. The concert will take place by the fireside in DCA’s intimate lobby space. DCA’s Coffeehouse Concert Series is sponsored by The Cordon Family Foundation.
Coffee and dessert service for the Lectures and Coffeehouse Concerts is provided by Base Camp Coffee Shop.
Tickets for Christian’s concert are $15, general admission. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made through the DCA box office, located on Highway 42 in Fish Creek. The box office is open Monday-Friday, 12-5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in person, on the phone at (920) 868-2728, or online at www.dcauditorium.org.
