“A superb crooner and an equally powerful soul singer, [JT Nero] can belt out a lyric or etch it with the delicacy of Venetian glass, whilst evoking Curtis Mayfield one moment and Sly Stone the next.” – allmusic
JT Nero is a songwriter, singer, poet, and producer based in Nashville, TN. From deep Door County roots—many on the peninsula will know him as the frontman of JT and the Clouds, or as half of the duo Birds of Chicago with Allison Russell—Nero has grown a wide and rich career. In recent years, he co-wrote Russell’s two critically acclaimed solo albums, 2021’s Outside Child and 2023’s The Returner, which he also co-produced. The Returner received four Grammy nominations, winning in the Best American Roots Performance category. With a songwriting voice that’s as distinctive as his fractured soul croon, Nero weaves funk, gospel, and folk into rock and roll psalms of righteous empathy.
